Tonight at a BDSM community class on the difference between BDSM and abuse, educator Sarah Sloane drew attention to me and my blog and said I should post about some resources on BDSM and abuse. Here are some quick thoughts:

* If you are seeking medical, legal or other professional help for a BDSM-related problem, try glancing over the Kink Aware Professionals list hosted on the website of the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom. Lawyers, doctors and other professionals who are into BDSM or are familiar with BDSM can add themselves to that list; it’s not reviewed or vetted by anyone, so I recommend that you shop around among more than one professional in order to make your own decisions about who will work best for you.

* Here is a post I wrote on current BDSM anti-abuse initiatives, and other thoughts on the topic.

* Here is a post I co-wrote with Thomas MacAulay Millar on safewords and check-ins, which I think are two of the most important things to understand if trying to communicate effectively and non-abusively in BDSM relationships.

* Finally, here is a link to my general page on BDSM resources.
